Step Into History: Curling & Drill House Tour

Keweenaw National Historical Park and Western U.P. Health Department invite the public to try the Olympic sport of curling on Wednesday, March 16 at 6 p.m. at the Copper Country Curling Club, located in the historic drill house behind the Calumet Colosseum and near the CLK Schools playground, north of Red Jacket Road in Calumet. At Curling and Drill House Tour event, participants can try sliding stones and sweeping the curling sheet (temperature permitting), as well as tour the drill house and learn about adjacent mining structures and capped mine shafts. The event is free, with no pre-registration required. The Curling and Drill House Tour is the third event in a series of Step Into History activities hosted by Keweenaw NHP and WUPHD through a grant from the National Park Foundation?s Active Trails program. The local park was one of 25 national parks selected to receive a 2016 Active Trails grant from the National Park Foundation. The park, in partnership with the health department, will host a series of walks and other healthy activities throughout 2016.
