COPPER BOWL CLASS

COPPER BOWL CLASS

Native American Indians living in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan discovered outcroppings of a very pure form of copper ore, the most pure in the world. They forged tools from the copper to fit their life needs. This workshop with artist Jikiwe(Ed Gray) will follow the same ancient methods. Workshop participants will form a copper bowl by using primitive tools. The copper bowl will be annealed by fire until the forming process is completed. The bowl can be embellished with beads and/or found objects. Class size is limited and on a "first come-first served basis". Class starts promptly at 9:00AM. Come and learn ancient techniques of copper bowl forging using a stump for an anvil, stone for a hammer, and an open pit fire for annealing. This class is taught using the teachings from the ancestors. Rain, snow, or shine. Bring: mat or chair, rain and/or snow gear, and a bag lunch. Pre-registratio?n and payment is required.
